National Recovery Month 2018

Pensacola, Fla. (Sept. 5, 2018) – September is National Recovery Month and Lakeview Center would like to share a few key points to help our community better understand addiction.

· Stigma and shame are still associated with substance use disorders, but science has proven it's a disease not a moral failure. Addiction is genetic, similar to asthma, diabetes, or hypertension.

· "Sober life skills" are the new behaviors and ways of living learned during treatment to replace old habits and poor decisions with healthy ones.

· Federal and State laws protect an individual’s privacy in substance abuse treatment. Unless you sign a “release of information” or “disclosure authorization” form, no one at a treatment facility can discuss your treatment with anyone other than you.

If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, Lakeview Center is the locally trusted, nonprofit partner for comprehensive care. The agency has more than 60 programs and services to treat behavioral health and addiction.
