Specialized Foster Care
All children deserve a safe, loving home where they can function to their best abilities. Some children need a little extra care. Specialized Foster Care is designed to help care for children who are experiencing behavioral issues, school problems, substance abuse, physical/medical or emotional concerns and other situations that require additional help such as autism and developmental disabilities Lakeview Center currently has two programs to help these young people. The acronym CHIPS stands for Changing Horizons through Innovative Parenting Systems. The program is funded by Medicaid and provides intensive treatment service to children ages 5 to 17 who have emotional disturbances. CHIPS is intended to be short-term resource (six to 12 months) of therapeutic care for children in a foster care setting. Specialized foster parents and clinical staff work together to develop and implement individual treatment plans for each child to help him or her reach optimum potential. FamiliesFirst Network funds this specialized, short-term (six to 12 months) program. We designed it especially for children who require more than traditional foster care can give them. Our specialized foster parents work with Matrix program counselors to support and provide stability to children and families so that the child may successfully transition to a permanent home. Matrix/DD – This program is designed for children with developmental disabilities and autism as well as behavioral challenges.
