Art of Adoption
The Heart Gallery Project of Northwest Florida is a photographic exhibit of children in foster care who are waiting to be adopted through FamiliesFirst Network of Lakeview (FFN). The exhibit is associated with the National Heart Gallery, founded in New Mexico in 2001 as a unique way to help children awaiting adoption step from the shadows into the light.
Since that time, dozens of Heart Gallery projects like ours have developed across the country. For each exhibit, professional photographers donate their time and talent to capture the spirit of children awaiting adoption. These museum-quality portraits are displayed at different venues in hopes that prospective adoptive families will see them.
Our Art of Adoption exhibits began in 2005. Since that time, our photographs have been displayed at numerous locations, including state and national legislative buildings and museums. Various local businesses – including WEAR TV3, the Pensacola Cultural Center, Dollarhides Music, Junior League offices – have displayed the exhibits as well as numerous churches in Escambia and Okaloosa counties. Baptist Hospital in Pensacola has some photographs on permanent display. As a result of the displays, several of the children featured have been adopted by wonderful, loving families.
The children featured in this exhibit are not the only ones awaiting adoption in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties. For more information about the children in this exhibit, other “waiting children,” or about the adoption process, please call FamiliesFirst Network of Lakeview. Also, please let us know if you have a public venue such as your church or business where you would be willing to display Art of Adoption photographs to help us find "forever families" for our children. They are counting on us all to help them find a place to call home!
